5 Inspiring Bible Studies for Seniors That Will Deepen Your Faith

My dear mother-in-law spent the latter part of her life serving older people and advocating for them through the Texas Silver-Haired Legislature, a non-partisan legislative organization of elected seniors. Her faith was the driving force behind all she did, making her daily time with the Lord essential. Of course, our family wanted to encourage her faithful walk in any way we could.

However, we discovered finding Bible studies for seniors could be challenging. But our family persisted and made it a mission to keep her well-stocked with good resources to fill her quiet time and fuel her mission-minded heart. Those same Bible studies also became edifying to her peers as she passed along treasured recommendations.

Whether you’re an older person searching for biblical enrichment or someone who delights in finding good resources for the senior you love, you can’t go wrong with these five Bible studies that speak to the practical and spiritual needs of mature Christian women.

1. She Smiles Without Fear by Katy McCown

Older people have a lot to look forward to, but the temptation to worry about what lies ahead doesn’t lessen with age. While the world seemingly spins out of control in political and social realms, it can be frightening to imagine what kind of future our children and grandchildren will face when we’re gone.

She Smiles Without Fear: Proverbs 31 for Every Woman is a 5-week Bible study that guides readers through a fresh examination of the Proverbs 31 woman, while providing practical advice for facing our fears without living in them. Through inspirational stories, scriptural truth, and actionable steps, Katy McCown shows readers how to uproot their anxieties and plant seeds of faith that will lead to joy-filled freedom.

The study includes six digital videos you can easily access online. These sessions are a valuable addition to the book, especially for home-bound seniors. In the videos Katy’s humor, transparency, and insight breathe fresh life into each chapter as she explains how to release our what-ifs to a God who already holds the future in His sovereign hands.

A Woman of Contentment Book Cover

2. A Woman of Contentment by Dee Brestin

Contrary to popular belief, maturity doesn’t always guarantee contentment. In fact, many seniors find themselves restless after life’s daily grind fades to a steady hum. With more time to reflect on life, past sorrows, regrets, and disappointments can dominate our thinking unless we purposefully wrangle our thoughts and submit them to God’s truth.

In A Woman of Contentment: Insight into Life’s Sorrows, Dee Brestin uses the book of Ecclesiastes to help women of every age turn their gaze from what is “under the sun” to see life’s seasons and circumstances through the lens of eternity. Each of the eight chapters is divided into five days of Bible study, which begins with Scripture memory followed by encouragement and inspiration for praise and worship.

Through this refreshing study, readers will learn how to seek godly wisdom, live each day with purpose, cherish God-given relationships, and age gracefully while radiating the joy of Jesus.

3. Being Fully Known by Dr. Saundra Dalton-Smith

For many seniors, the question, “Do I still matter?” nags louder and louder with each passing birthday. After decades of running the race God has set before us—the stillness of retirement can make us question our worth.

In Being Fully Known, Dr. Saundra Dalton-Smith helps believers embrace holy stillness as a gift from God. The study helps readers recognize their purpose and celebrate their worth based on who God has called them to be—rather than what He’s called them to do.

Each section of the book concludes with a deep dive into Scripture and thoughtful prompts for personal reflection, making this guide ideal for personal or group study. Five bonus teaching videos are included along with an optional plan for a twenty-one-day fast to enrich your study.

Live Reflectively Book Cover

4. Live Reflectively by Lenya Heitzig

All mature women have faced critical turning points in life. Those watershed moments help define our character and move us deeper into our God-given calling.

In Live Reflectively: Lessons from the Watershed Moments of Moses, Lenya Heitzig uses the first five books of the Bible to guide the reader through the watershed and water-filled moments of Moses’s life. Drawing on the significance water played at each pivotal stage of Moses’ mission, Lenya encourages readers to reflect on their own turning points to recognize the hand of God at work.

Each daily lesson is only twenty minutes long, and Lenya uses five Ls to help the reader lift up in prayer, look at God’s Word, learn new insights, live out what they learned, and listen to other believers to glean insight and find encouragement.
