Time Well Spent with Jesus

He has delivered us from the domain of darkness and transferred us to the kingdom of his beloved Son, in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins. He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of all creation. For by him all things were created, in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities—all things were created through him and for him. And he is before all things, and in him all things hold together. Colossians 1:13–17

As Christians, we have this hope: we are saved in Christ Jesus. The very Jesus who all things were created by and for. What an honor that He would not only create us for Himself, but that He would draw us near as Immanuel.

You see, we owe Jesus everything. But instead of our works, He asks for our hearts. In John 6:29, Jesus reveals that the work God desires is to believe in the One He sent. We know that belief equals obedience, and obedience is central to our everyday lives (1 John 5:2–3).

How we spend our time—what we do—reflects the state of our hearts. It reflects the state of our obedience, and ultimately it reflects the state of our belief.

To steward our time as a gift from God keeps our hearts turned to Him. It keeps us abiding with God as He abides with us. We lean in for direction, for fulfillment, for everything. When we recognize our time is His, we remember our place and His place, too.

We remember that we were created by Him and for Him.

We remember that He is holy, set apart.

We remember that He is the whole point.

So, spend your day with Him, your time with Him, and watch Him work. Allow His Holy Spirit to surround you and work through you to display His glory in your life. His ways are higher and better than we’ll ever be able to imagine. Lean into Him along the way and be reminded that if He holds all things together—which He does—you can trust Him with your time.

Prayer: Lord Jesus, we are thankful for who You are. That You created us and that You call us. Help us to lean into Your will and Your way as we spend our days as daughters, sisters, wives, mothers, and more. Help us to know You more as we give our days to You, one moment at a time. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Read John 6: 25–40 and be reminded of who Jesus is as the Bread of Life. Many times, our time is spent trying to create fulfillment or “bread” for ourselves—financially, mentally, emotionally, physically. Jesus came so that we can live. How might giving Him your time throughout the day impact your focus as you walk as children of God? Pray that your time would reflect your desire to draw near to Him.
