Fear once felt like the most natural voice to follow. Worry came easily, and I often assumed the safest choice was the wisest one. But as I grew in my relationship with Jesus, I began to recognize another voice: the gentle, steady voice of the Holy Spirit. He was teaching me that I wasn’t created to live by fear’s dictates but by His presence.
Years ago, that voice invited my husband and me to leave everything familiar in California and move to Tennessee. We loved our church, our little beach house near the ocean, and the life we had built with our two young daughters. We knew no one in Tennessee. There was no job waiting for us. From every practical perspective, staying made more sense.
Yet beneath all the questions was a deep, unmistakable peace. Jesus wasn’t pushing us with pressure or guilt; He was inviting us into something we couldn’t yet see.
Whenever fear whispered about everything we might lose, I returned to God’s promise: He had not given me a spirit of fear. If fear wasn’t His voice, I didn’t want it shaping my decisions.
The journey wasn’t without challenges. We faced unexpected legal obstacles with the sale of our home, difficult goodbyes, and the uncertainty of starting over in a place we had never been. Yet at every turn, God met us with provision and peace. We prayed for a cash offer above asking price, and it came the very day our home was listed. His faithfulness reminded us that we were not walking alone.
Thirteen years later, I can see more clearly what God was doing through a decision that once felt so uncertain. Our lives are surrounded by a community of faith we never could have orchestrated on our own. The greatest gift wasn’t just a new location; it was learning to trust the goodness of God’s voice.
Fear still speaks at times, but I no longer let it decide my direction. I’ve learned that every invitation from Jesus leads somewhere good, even when I cannot see the outcome.
Fear predicts what you might lose. Jesus invites you into what only He can give. When His voice calls you forward, trust that His invitation always leads to something better than fear could ever protect.
Prayer: Father, thank You for speaking with clarity and love. When fear tries to lead me, remind me of Your steady voice. Help me to recognize Your invitation and trust that where You lead is always good. Give me courage to follow You with peace and joy, even when I cannot see the outcome. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
