“It’s another no,” said my husband.
My heart sank.
Another closed door. Another reminder that this season was not unfolding the way I envisioned.
Have you ever navigated a season in life that felt like it would never end? I know that may sound a bit extreme, but I truly feel there are seasons when minutes feel like days, days feel like months, and months feel like years.
My family recently navigated a long, up-and-down season of unemployment. Some mornings we woke up full of faith and hope, convinced God was going to swing open a door for us. Other days, we felt disappointment cloaking us like a robe while our season of in-between dragged on.
Our faith was tested during this time, and I’m sure yours has been tested in certain seasons too. Again and again, God gently brought us back to the same question: Will we allow our earthly circumstances to determine our eternal perspective?
In this life, we might receive a hard God-given assignment, face a disappointing outcome, or wrestle with the reality that something we’ve been praying for still hasn’t come to fruition. In those moments, we’re faced with a decision: Do we continue to walk by faith?
I love Paul’s simple framework for living in 2 Corinthians 5:7: “for we walk by faith, not by sight.”
If God has placed you in the middle of a season requiring a lot of faith, I encourage you to remember that earthly circumstances do not determine our heavenly Father’s character. He remains the same loving, intentional, sovereign, good God at all times, no matter what you’re up against here on earth.
When God allows you to enter into hard moments or seasons, there is a great opportunity waiting—you get to strengthen your faith by living it out. You get to acknowledge the circumstance in front of you with a nod, then lift your eyes toward the One who sovereignly orchestrates them all.
And, in one moment, everything can change. After eighteen months, all it took was one “yes,” and my husband was back at work with a stronger faith than ever before.
Friend, will you walk by faith today? Will you choose to hold onto the hope you have in Jesus as you do the things He has asked you to do? Will you let Him work in and through you?
Maybe He’s asking you to extend forgiveness to a difficult person, or maybe He’s asking you to take one step forward toward a God-sized dream. Whatever His assignment is for you, remember, God doesn’t make mistakes, and I encourage you to take your next step toward Him. He’s worthy of your faith today.
Prayer: Lord, You are good, and we know Your assignments come with great purpose. Thank You for never leaving us, for renewing our strength, and for filling us with power from the Holy Spirit to live a life of faith. We love You. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
